On the 26th of September, the Study Center was delighted to welcome students and faculty from the 1st Gymnasio (middle school) of Ierapetra and Loekamp Gymnasium at Marl (Germany) to the Study Center. This visit formed part of an exchange program currently taking place between Greek and German students, with the theme “Culture and Art: an international language”. The group was given a tour of our facility by Eleni Nodarou, who not only provided them with an introduction to archaeology as a discipline in general, but also explained to them the post-excavation work that takes place at the Study Center. After their tour, the students participated in two archaeology-themed activities. Gabriella Lazoura led a clay activity in which students created tablets with their names written on them in Linear B script, and Carly Henkel led a flotation activity in which students recovered and identified carbonized seeds.

Both the students and faculty thoroughly enjoyed the visit and the Study Center looks forward to continuing its public outreach efforts with more student tours of all ages in the future.
