Elite competition is often seen as one of the principal forces behind social change. Such behavior creates new connections between people and new institutions. Such is the case for social change in Iron Age Greece outside of Crete. The peculiar behavior of elites on Iron Age Crete however makes focusing on social change more difficult. I will discuss what we know, what we don’t know, and highlight some of the frustrations in charting social change on Iron Age Crete.
