All of us at the INSTAP Study Center wish to congratulate Dr. Despina Papadopoulou, our former library fellow, on the completion of her Ph.D. entitled “The presence and importance of serpentinite in Bronze Age Crete: raw materials, exploitation, products” at the University of Athens under the supervision of Professors L. Platon, P. Pomonis and G. Kourtessi-Philippakis. Depsina’s Ph.D. deals with the presence of serpentinite on Crete. More specifically, she studied stone vessels from Zakros using a combined approach of typological classification and petrographic analysis to examine various sources of serpentinite outcrops across central and east Crete in order to infer possible intra-island trade routes.
