Hello! I am Megan Gatton, a Ph.D. Student at New York University’s Institute of Fine Arts. This January, I spent several days at INSTAP Study Center studying under zooarchaeologist Dr. Dimitra Mylona. I learned how to identify and sort different kinds of skeletal elements and gained familiarity with the terrestrial and marine fauna of the ancient Mediterranean. My dissertation on worked bone offerings from 7th-6th century BCE Greek sanctuaries will benefit enormously from the experience I gained with the raw material at the Study Center. I am incredibly thankful to Dimitra and Tom Brogan, as well as all the other staff and scholars at INSTAP who were so welcoming and inspiring!
