The National Museum of Natural History Goulandris in collaboration with the Paul and Alexandra Canellopoulos Museum (CAMU) present the new temporary exhibition “Humans and Animals: An Eternal Bond,” inviting the public to explore the enduring relationship between humanity and the animal kingdom, from antiquity to the present day. The exhibition features over 130 archaeological artifacts from the Canellopoulos Museum’s collection—which engage in a dialogue with items from the Goulandris Museum’s permanent collection—alongside modern zoological specimens from the comparative collection of the Malcolm H. Wiener Laboratory for Archaeological Sciences at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens. Through archaeological finds, visual depictions, and written sources, the exhibition highlights the multifaceted nature of the relationship between humans and animals across daily life, the economy, religion, mythology, and symbolism.

The exhibit opens on November 18, 2026 and will run through April 30, 2027. The INSTAP SCEC’s faunal expert, Dimitra Mylona, is proud to be part of this unique undertaking.

This is an excellent example of how fascinating this aspect of the past can be. The exhibition will be complemented by a book full of great stories on animals and humans, and a stimulating and informative catalogue of the exhibition’s objects. We hope you will check it out!
